Have you been in a long-term relationship, whether married, living together, or else? Are you feeling the need to reignite your emotional and physical connection to your partner? If so, this workshop is for you!
A long-term relationship has many advantages; it also requires knowledge and effort to grow.
“Great lovers are made, not born.” by Peggy Kleinplatz, PhD
Most people want to fall in love and have a longstanding loving relationship. The initial honeymoon phase brings couples together to experiment a new level of intimacy, but very few couples know how to maintain that flame alive during the different phases of life. Soon the couple learns that love is not enough but other skills are necessary to have a successful relationship. Communication, finances, pregnancy, kids, parenting, career, extended family, empty nest, retirement, illness, family losses, … will have a significant impact on most relationships. We all can learn the skills needed to grow and use these challenges to strengthen our connection.
We also are not well trained in healthy conflict. Most people tend to avoid conflict, which leads to keeping feelings and needs stuck inside; these feelings will only come out when one becomes fed up and “explodes”, which further hurts the relationship. When we learn how to use our conflicts in a healthy way, we feel more connected to our partner, better seen and heard by our partner.
This online workshop will be opened to 5 couples. Both partners need to attend. There will be 9 weekly sessions of 2 h each (Fridays, 1-3 pm). The fee for each weekly session will be $100 for the couple (including both partners). You will be responsible for paying for all sessions, one week at a time. If you miss a session, you will have a way for you to catch up with it.
The workshop will be very interactive and people can maintain their confidentiality by using different names. The online set up provides a safer space for this type of workshop.
Workshop topics to be discussed include:
- The 3 essential components of a successful long-term relationship
- The household matters
- Emotional intimacy: friendship, vulnerability, trust, healthy conflicts
- Physical intimacy: sexual myths, sexual cycle differences, initiation, the power of touch, being present during sex, consent, exploring new ways, porn, infidelity.
Who could participate in this workshop:
- Couples who have a good relationship but feel like roommates and want to spice up their relationship.
- Couples with good conflict management skills (high-conflict couples need to address it first through counseling).
- Couples who value their life together and want to invest in the next chapter of their relationship.
Important for participants:
- This is not a therapy group but a workshop aimed at sharing evidence-based information and exercises that promote couples intimacy (emotional/relational and physical/sexual).
- This workshop will last 9 sessions, instead of a whole weekend, because it will focus not only on sharing information but also promoting gradual changes in the couples routine. It takes several weeks for our brain to engage in a new habit.
- Both partners need to participate. If you have an emergency, let’s know in advance so that so we can figure out how you could catch up.
- Only 2 absences will be allowed per couple so that we can keep the momentum going.
- This workshop is best fit for couples that will prioritize their relationship, give it some time every week, and wants to truly co-create a new relationship. This workshop will not be a good fit for you if there are issues related to domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, chronic infidelity in your relationship. Also, it takes two to tango; effective relationship changes require participation e collaboration of both partners.
- Since this is an online workshop, it is important that the couple is attending it in a confidential room in their house. Doors closed, no children or pets allowed in the room. These situations would cause disruptions to the whole group.
- The workshop has weekly homework for the couple. It will be a gradual process. If homework is not done weekly, the chances of good outcomes for that couple will be greatly diminished.
- You will be responsible for paying all 9 weekly sessions of the workshop. Each session will be billed the same day that session happens.
